In the last 25 years I supported many people to heal, to remember and to change their life for the better. Based on many real life experiences, these are the 7 steps to get out of the 7 biggest traps that make you commit the same mistakes and ruin your life.

1. The insanity loop

Have you ever noticed that you keep expecting, hoping and dreaming of something different but you keep doing the same thing over and over again? Like you wish and hope you would get up early and go to the gym but instead you stay in bed, watch tv and eat some pancakes with chocolate. The way out of this predicament is to change your actions instead!

2. Fear of the unknown

Did you know that unconsciously we are drawn to things that are familiar because they provide us with a sense of safety and comfort? Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith to move forward even if you are scared or intimidated of the unknown.

3. Blind spots

Often it is hard to spot the same patterns and recurring themes in your life, and you don’t recognise how you keep repeating the same mistakes and get the same results. And this is a big one. To get out of this trap, you have to go beyond and completely shift your perspective so you can see what is really going on.

4. Instant gratification

Choosing immediate comfort constantly undermines lasting progress, and I know this for a fact. But it is very tempting to soothe and comfort yourself when you experience some discomfort. The key is to choose surrender even in the discomfort rather than resist, suppress and avoid because I promise that you have to deal with it later.

5. Attachment you your story

Many times we identify our story with our identity. This is who I am, and look what happened to me, in a nutshell. But when you completely identify with your story and believe that that’s who you really are, you will defend it at all cost and do anything to maintain it unconsciously. The 3 main roles that create the story are the victim, the predator and the hero. Who are you? And who you want to be? Sometimes you have to let go of your role and your story.

6. Bypassing

Another obstacle that’s also a blind spot for many is a type of bypassing when you think that you are progressing, healing and evolving by intellectually understanding a problem without implementing any practical changes in your life. Remember that change comes only from action, understanding your predicament is only the first step.

7. Lack of self-reflection

The lack of self-reflection guarantees repetition of past mistakes, period. If you think you can just live like ‘Carpe Diem’, like everything is a chance and nothing really matters you probably will be disappointed. But don’t worry, life will teach you or force you to look at yourself and turn inward. It’s is hard to see parts of you who you don’t approve, who you pushed aside but this is the only way to realize who you truly are beyond those parts, those stories and those masks. And you are divine, beautiful and powerful, I know that you are.

Closing

Each time you catch yourself in the insanity loop, face your fears, illuminate your blind spots, delay gratification, release your limiting story, take real action, or practice honest self-reflection, you’re not just solving problems, you’re evolving and moving toward a happier life. Remember that transformation isn’t a destination but a daily practice of seeing yourself with compassion and choosing differently, even when it’s difficult. The path may not always be comfortable, but I promise you this, on the other side of these challenges is a version of yourself who is free, authentic, and free. You have the power to break these cycles, now is the time to use it.
